Alice Laycock

Introducing Alice...

With a diploma and a degree in interior design, Alice is our go-to source for interiors expertise. Much like ourselves here at Out & Out, sustainability is close to Alice's heart and she wrote her dissertation on the benefits and drawbacks of ‘fast’ vs ‘slow’ furniture (the interior design equivalent to the fast fashion phenomenon).

Alice's favourite subjects to research and write about are interior design, architecture, contemporary design and art in a general context. You can read exactly what she has to say on these subjects (and more) by scrolling to the end of the page!

Quick Fire Questions:

My interiors style in 3 words...

Neutral, Airy, Historic

My favourite ever home purchase…

Clip frames for sure; they’re timeless, inexpensive, and allow me to showcase the kindly gifted work of my artistic friends and other interesting prints I find.

My best interiors piece of advice…

Keep the backdrop neutral to allow furniture and accent pieces to take centre stage. Neutral walls and floors will allow easier experimentation and keep the room feeling light, bright, and airy.

My favourite Out & Out product is…

The Button Oak Cabinet is a real standout for sure. To be honest, the entire Button range (chest of drawers, wardrobe, and mirror) is incredible. They’re authentically contemporary pieces. My first article for Out & Out was about console tables, so their range of sideboards, consoles, drinks cabinets, etc hold a special place in my heart.

The last room I redecorated was…

My entire flat! When I moved in unfurnished last September. Luckily, I had friends and family to help me out with hand-me-down pieces, as well as frequenting second-hand sites to fill in the gaps. Now I live with an eclectic mix of old and new furniture, which I love.

My favourite room of the house is…

The bedroom for sure. It really is a sanctuary.

If I could live anywhere, it would be…

In a classic Hausmannian apartment in Paris. The greater the ceiling height, the better.
