How quickly has 2019 flown by? We’re now into that time of year where Christmas decorations are arriving in the shops already, and soon enough we’ll be sailing straight into 2020. As usual, a new year sees the arrival of new trends in fashion, beauty, and of course, our personal favourite, interior design! 2019 saw some fabulous trends in furniture, involving the appearance of jewel tones, high gloss, and industrial inspiration, but what can we expect in 2020? We’ve not only taken a look at some of the upcoming trends for 2020, but we’ve also selected some of our favourite pieces that will help you effortlessly create your favourite look.
One of our favourite trends from 2019 had to be the use of jewel tones in both furniture and interior design. We’re pleased to report that it’s going to be carrying on its presence into 2020 with the ‘eclectic glamour’ trend. This trend encompasses a rich, bold colour palette involving royal blues, emerald greens and ruby red, and works best when paired with metallic details such as gold, copper and bronze. It’s perfect for anyone wanting to add a little extra glamour to their space and will truly give the wow factor. This trend also takes inspiration from 2019’s retro inspired look, using furniture with rounded curves which create a shapely silhouette, giving a flamboyant and stylish feel.
For a statement piece to really kick off this trend in your living room, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous shapely sofa, and we love the Wilfred 3 Seater, which will add plenty of character. The warm grey colour is perfect for those who would rather keep the furniture pieces neutral and let the interiors do the talking, or if you fancy making a statement, it’s also available in a refreshing blue or a rich charcoal. There’s even an option for smaller rooms to channel the look too, with a more compact 2 seater version.
When it comes to fabric choices, velvet is still going to be a strong contender as we move into the new year, and what better way to feature it in your home with the Theodore Velvet Armchair? The velvet finish fabric is perfect for channeling the eclectic glamour look in your living room or bedroom, and the beautifully bright turquoise colour adds a pop of colour that is sure to be a talking point of any room.
While we’re talking velvet, you can even introduce this trend in your dining room, with the Astrid Glass Dining Set - the glass table is perfect for creating the illusion of space, while the tulip-shaped seats are perfect for adding a little elegance. The Astrid Dining Set is available in a rage of different table materials and seat colours, but we especially love the glass table top and stunning forest green coloured chairs.
Of course, you can’t forget the finishing touches either. Complete the look with smaller furniture pieces in metallic colours that will add that final touch of glamour. A fine example is the Botani Copper End Table. It’s perfect for creating a stylish, elegant finish with its warm copper shade, but the sleek looking shape and design helps keep things modern.
Keep It Neutral
2019 was the year that we embraced neutral tones and materials, and it looks as though it’ll be continuing well into 2020. Think stripped back, simplistic, and and calm. Taking inspiration from sustainability, this trend makes use of rustic, neutral tones that create a relaxing space to rest and recharge. One of our favourite pieces that embraces this look is the Presley Vence 2 Seater Sofa. The soft grey is sure to be a winner for any living room, creating a light and fresh look that can easily be brightened up with a few colourful cushions if need be. The cosy 2 seater is perfect for smaller spaces with it’s compact design, and the exposed pine wood feet create an illusion of space. If you have plenty more space to work with, you’re in luck, as Presley Vence is also available in a 3 seater version too.
Another way to embrace the neutral look is though your smaller furniture pieces. We love the Austin Wooden Block Side Table, which really embraces the natural theme and keeps things looking fresh and stylish. Made completely from mango, this material is highly resilient and sustainable, so is perfect for those who want to take sustainability into consideration when styling their homes.
This trend isn’t just for the living room either, it’s great for creating a fresh and airy look in your dining room too. We love the Talisa Extendable Dining Set, which is super stylish and versatile. The wood effect finish is great for creating a rustic look, while the brand new Talisa chairs add a modern twist. We especially love the teal chairs which inject a fresh pop of colour, but you can also choose from white and grey too, which is perfect for those who want to keep it simple.
Mad About Metals
The industrial look was a particular trend that everyone was talking about in 2019, so fans of this look will be pleased to know that 2020 is all about metals and minimalism. Whether you opt for elegant metallic tones of gold, copper or brass, or go for sleek and sophisticated black, you’re sure to be bang on trend. For those who want a simple, modern look, black metal furniture is a great way to add a stylish touch to your home. We’re big fans of the New York Black Console Table, which is not only incredibly versatile, but also makes quite a statement. The shelves are made with oak veneer which allows for a clean and smooth finish, while the metal frame adds a touch of that industrial vibe.
For those after something a little more rustic, a fabulous alternative is the Wyatt Round Coffee Table. The hardwood table top channels the neutral look, while the sculpted iron base adds a contemporary twist that’s sure to be the focal point of your living room.
If you’d prefer to keep your metals to a minimum, a good way to do this is with handles and legs on furniture - particularly sideboards and storage solutions. Embrace the minimalism by keeping clutter neatly tidied in the Live Rustic Oak Parquet Sideboard. With its sleek and stylish design, this will fit neatly in with your furniture, be it your living room or your hallway. The metal legs and handles are a great finishing touch, and the gold finish adds a hint of warmth too.
Hopefully this has got you inspired for a little bit of a home makeover in the new year - or perhaps sooner! Whatever trend you choose to channel in your home in the new year, you can guarantee you’ll find unique, stylish furniture here at Out & Out!
