It’s hard to believe that August is already here – we’re in the height of summer now, and despite lifting restrictions facilitating foreign travel, there’s still no place like home.
The following lounge sets are all perfectly geared towards a Staycation ideal for outdoor summer relaxing, whether with family, friends, or solo. Their collectively neutral palettes (perfectly encapsulating outdoor Scandinavian style) allow the garden foliage and personal company to take centre stage, while providing a comfortable base for morning coffee, BBQ lunches, or evening drinks.
Chesterton Corner Lounge Set
The Chesterton Corner Lounge Set is the English rose of our lounge sets, and nowhere is it more perfectly situated than in the gardens of @mummyjuggler and Melanie De Rosa. In both stylings, the Chesterton makes a functional and beautiful statement of a disused corner of garden or decking; and creates a panoramic viewpoint of the rest of the garden – perfect for keeping an eye on children and/or pets while reclining.
Tara (@mummyjuggler) styles her Chesterton with glowing candles in front of, beside, and above the set, with a triangular frame cosily enclosing the setup while maintaining the air flow. The grey tones of the framework and furniture are offset effortlessly by the warm-toned brick wall behind, which catches the glow of the lights and candles. The upholstery is left uncovered but is inviting regardless thanks to its neutral tone, padded base and sides, and high-quality material. A rambling rose or climbing foliage would be the finishing touch to the tranquil setup.
Melanie De Rosa pictures her Chesterton set through a different lens, inviting the user to settle down in the shady corner out of the summer heat upon its cooling slate grey fabric and fresh, tropical print cushions which add a splash of colour. Again, the trellis when adorned with a climbing plant would wash fresh scents over the user, and the addition of the green candle surround on the coffee table really ties the area together. One arm of the L shaped corner sofa projects out into the space instead of following a corner wall, which proves that zoning can be achieved outside as easily as inside with the right pieces.
Palma Corner Lounge Set
Visions of the Mediterranean are conjured in the stylings of the Palma Corner Lounge Set by @ourcornishnewbuild and @athomewiththeshanes – and not only due to the name of the set. Optional seating options in the form of the two and one seater stools/benches – when not in use – combined with the coffee table give a multi-layered, stepped profile to the set, reminiscent of the rocky coastlines of the island where the set gets its name.
Jess, Nic and Rosie (@ourcornishnewbuild) takes this concept to new heights by positioning their set in front of a textured masonry wall, which compliments the wicker bases of the furniture perfectly. Pops of yellow in the form of accent cushions give a fresh, citrus note, perfect for summer lounging in this little sun trap; the perfect summer breakfast spot. The padded benches are poised to receive unexpected guests, a unique benefit of this set.
The Shanes family (@athomewiththeshanes) transports us to Mallorca itself with their Palma-based setup. Cool and warm tones merge in this idyllic scene, and long, low shapes create a relaxing composition. Perched on flagstones and bolstered with gold vases and foliage, and complete with warm light studded parasol and bedecked fence, it’s as enticing as can be for a summer evening. The reflections of the string lights in the glass-topped table and textured gold vases elevates the neutral furniture to a luxurious new height.
Santorini Lounge Set
Navigating through to the Aegean Sea, and the Santorini lounge set styled by Sarah KJ. This set creates the potential for more one-to-one, dual lounging, thanks to the chaise-esq effect created by its pair of two-seater benches. These turn the set into one of modularity and possibility; leaving one bench in place to form an L-shaped arrangement, the other can be manoeuvred to act as a foot stall or padded pouffe/footstool. They can also be placed horizontally to the main sofa rather than perpendicular, which creates a deeper couch effect. The two sides of the arrangement that Sarah has opted for in this layout can also be pulled apart for a face-to-face effect.
Sarah’s styling injects pops of blue into the setup via the throw cushions – a bonafide styling option as concurred with by other previous examples in this article – and their azure hues are a nod to the Grecian origin of the set’s name. She also ups the ante by adding more neutral elements, with the two inviting cream-white throws poised at both ends, creating a day-bed effect. This set also comes with extra padding via the arm rest cushions, which serve to cosily enclose those who are seated. This set seems ideal for snuggling up on as the nights get chillier; Indian summer or not, this allows you to make the most of your outside furniture well into the Autumn months.
Staycations for the second year running don’t have to be dull; if you’re not quite ready to venture abroad, see it as an opportunity to invest in your own home instead. It's a worthwhile (and often more budget friendly!) alternative to extensive travel. Memories shared and made with friends and family on a long evening at home last just as long as those of foreign travel; and, if you take as much time and care to style your outdoor spaces as those have as mentioned in this article, it doesn’t have to be so geographically different after all.
