Top 10 decor trends for 2023

2023 is an exciting year for design. Let’s take a look at the top 2023 trends for the year, that you can incorporate in your home.

1. Sustainability

Sustainability is here to stay, as going forward it continues to grow in importance in all aspects of design.

It’s all about shopping for interior and exterior stylish furniture to keep your home looking on-trend, using locally sourced materials and sustainable, reclaimed wood.

At Out and Out, we believe we have a moral and ethical responsibility to adhere to Earth-friendly practices and work with like-minded suppliers who design whilst considering the environmental impact. Our furniture is made using materials that can stand up to harsh weather conditions such as our teak dining and lounge sets, which have been crafted using FSC eucalyptus hardwood.

You can read all about it and see our special sustainability conscious, interior and exterior furniture collections here

2. Historical Interiors

Get inspired by historic homes and architecture and infuse them with contemporary fabrics. Wall mouldings, ceiling crowns and panelling. Take inspiration from English country style and heritage, and give it more modern colourful updates. An element of nostalgia and an idea you could play around with inside and outside. Which brings us on to…

3. Modern Maximalism

Surround yourself with beauty and mix vibrant colour, pattern, texture, cultures, shapes and eras, both classic and modern. Think streamlined, contemporary interiors with one or two favourite, curated antique pieces, coffee tables, and sculptures for good measure. This mid-century, industrial style Fino - Wood and Brass Bench - 150cm, with geometric legs, is spot on for this look, with an interesting acacia dining bench and brass metal frame. Move away from white walls and steer towards layered neutrals, or sugar-coated sorbet fruity pastels, and warm blush, orangey-reds.

4. Murals and bold wallpapers

Decorative wall panels and feature walls aren’t going anywhere and people are using bold wallpapers, more than before. In the kitchen, in the bathroom, and in ‘meditation rooms’. If you have a small space, it’s a fun and creative way to style a room, and counterintuitively it can actually make a space seem larger. Win-win.

5. Colour Scheme: warm neutrals

Warm terracotta, dusky pinks and mustards, in line with Pantone’s 2023 Colour of the Year, Viva Magenta, will feature heavily in 2023 mood boards and interior design. As well as Earthy taupes, beiges, browns and creams. The emphasis is on cosy, snug environments and sticking to a Mother Nature-esque colour palette.

The Edinburgh - Walnut Coffee Table - 80cm, with its interesting architectural frame, and walnut and gold colour scheme, would look very much at home with these warm, neutral tones. And just the right element of a statement piece.

6. A focus on wellbeing

Architects and designers have reported more clients requesting a holistic, sanctuary style ‘relax’ or yoga room, rather than say a more traditional home gym, within the last 2-3 years. Which is hardly a surprise, as we all need a space to unwind. It’s no wonder both wood elements and greens are playing a major role in 2023 design trends.

7. Dream of Green

It’s all about creating a sense of balance and harmony, through luxurious jewel tone, green accents and hues dotted throughout your home. From botanical prints to sumptuous, rich dark green tiles, green gives us tranquillity and rejuvenation and works so well in a bedroom, kitchen or bathroom (or all 3). Create a dreamy escape, boosted by uplifting green houseplants. Forest bathing in your own home, if you will.

Stay on trend with a modern armchair in a soft light green fabric, like this gorgeous upholstered Lanford Velvet Armchair with an intricate panel, piping detailing, and rubberwood legs. Or this extra comfortable moss green Falun Square Velvet Footstool. The perfect way to relax.

8. Raw, Natural Materials

Expect to see an abundance of raw, natural materials. Limewash paints, cement, raw plaster and natural stone slabs. Pine is also on the top of the wooden textures list for 2023.

This Charlotte Wooden Lamp Table - 55cm has added texture for added impact. Made from reclaimed solid pine, with a concrete effect base, ticking both natural wood and concrete textures.

9. Texture, texture everywhere

Textured tiles and ceramics will make a big appearance in 2023, as will textured wallpapers and wall panelling. The emphasis is on the artisanal, hand-crafted effect, and special, individual items.

The more texture the merrier. Knitted blankets and chunky textiles will keep you cosy and warm, and your house looking beautiful, as will velvet. Type in ‘velvet’ on the Out and Out site and you will be spoilt for choice. We love this Viola Boucle Footstool, upholstered in white Teddy Bear Boucle Fabric. A perfectly classic, rectangular statement piece.

10. Transparent furniture

Whilst 2023 wants colour and colourful design to speak up, there’s an interesting trend for transparent, see-through furniture, from table tops to worktops. Which is a 1960s retro design classic and juxtaposes perfectly with our mid-century inspired velvet chairs and wooden tables, and continues the equation of the aforementioned ‘textures’ trend.
