How to restore your lounge chair into a throne fit for the coronation

Make your living room, conservatory or garden patio regally ready, polished and gleaming, in time for the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

Read on for cleaning and care tips for our lounge chairs, from rattan to teak, make sure it’s on your to-do list this very week.

Rattan Revival

Rattan maintenance isn’t stressful. Give your chair a light wipe down and dusting with a soft cloth, and or vacuum, using your Hoover brush attachment to reach into the finer grooves, making it dust free. If washing is your preferred method or a necessary remedy, mix a mild solution of an eco-friendly bio-liquid detergent cleaner with a well-wrung, slightly damp cloth, and work into the weave without saturation. You can dry it off with a soft polishing cloth and buff it up to a natural shine to complete the task.

Now all you have to do is tune in, relax, and get the Coronation quiche on.

Wonderful wicker

Often darker-coloured artificial wicker furniture is made with recycled plastics that don’t contain the necessary amounts of UV stabiliser to help protect them in the sunshine, resulting in inferior quality that doesn’t last.

The materials we use for our wicker furniture are plastics made from polyethylene which is 100% recyclable having a very minimal environmental footprint. As well as long-lasting, so you likely won’t need to restore them.

However, you could follow the same rules for cleaning rattan furniture for a freshen-up.

Teak: The King of the forest

A superhero of sorts, teak looks beautiful in any setting and contains natural oils that help stop it from rotting. For indoor or outdoor lounge sets, it’s one of the most sought-after materials and easy-care furniture options.

Its natural properties will help protect it, and the elements will create a lovely patina over time. However, if you want to give it a new lease of life and prefer to retain the warm, golden finish of teak garden furniture. Simply roll your sleeves up, and wipe it over to re-oil with teak oil, which also makes it stain-repellent.

Majestic Metal

Metal is a hardwearing material and easy to maintain. It’s best cleaned with a cloth or non-abrasive scratch-free sponge using water and mild, non-detergent soap, then wiped dry and polished up with a lint-free cloth.

If you have any chips in paint-finished metal, you can always touch it up with a paint kit in the appropriate colour.

Someone put the kettle on, once your lounge chair is restored into a throne fit for the Coronation. Add your favourite comfy cushions, bunting, and sit back to watch the pageantry.

King Charles himself would approve of our restoration advice, an avid advocate of sustainability. Make do and mend.

Are you all sitting comfortably?

Follow our tips, and your lounge chairs will look good and feel good. Ready to toast in our great, gracious new Ruler of the land, and enjoy a spectacular Coronation with the rest of the country? Long live the King!
