How to use Dulux's 'Wild Wonder' colour palettes in your home

Bring warmth to your home, and brighten up your décor with Dulux's 2023 Colour of the Year ‘Wild Wonder’, a pale yellow described as a "soft gold with hints of green inspired by fresh seed pods and harvest grain."

Their four complimentary colour palettes show the “different ways the natural world can inspire us” with an element of wildflower garden colours.

"As people search for support, connection, inspiration and balance in the world today, they're diving into the wonders of the natural world to find it," said the brand.

An uplifting shade of yellow, Wild Wonder echoes earth tones, a summer sunset, and an autumnal glow, all in one. It’s one of those clever mid-neutral tones, which works well paired with shades of dusty pink or deep red.

Relaxing, soothing tones that invoke the design of nature itself, allow us to reconnect with the outdoors and feel more grounded.

Heleen van Gent, the Creative Director of Akzo Nobel, Dulux's parent company who decided on the shade after a three-day workshop at their Global Aesthetics Centre with a panel of industry experts, says it will help bring “A little bit of magic in your own home.”

The word wild reminds us that there is freedom in nature. So, use this idea as a mood board to design or redesign your space, and let your imagination run wild with this positive new collection of interior paints. Which could be toned up or down, it’s all about balance…

As a soft yellow, it’s also neutral and looks good against whites, beiges, greys and black.

Items in the Out and Out collection that would look fab with this beautiful new paint colour, for an interior refresh, are our industrial bar stools, velvet footstools, and swivel chairs, for a pop of colour to complement the shade.

Our minimalist breakfast bar stools, such as these steel and oak Briggs Bar Stools, part of the District 8 collection, come in lots of different colours including red and yellow.

Both colour combinations would look great with Wild Wonder, alone or together as a mix of bar stool colours. Designer furniture to match your new Dulux designer paint. Or for a more muted natural, rustic organic look, go for brown or black, or the weathered oak District 8 Adjustable Stool.

The Harper and Piper Swivel Chairs offer a stylish contemporary seating option to upgrade your home furnishings to the next level. Available in light pink or light grey soft velvet, with black metal mid-century inspired tripod legs, all ideal complementary colours and tones for Wild Wonder, whether it is used as an accent colour or on an entire feature wall.

If you want to add a layer of soft beige, light grey or dark grey velvet to the neutral colour palettes, select the lovely lightweight foam padded Freya Footstool pouffe for your bedroom, bathroom or living room. A great style asset, comfy to sit on, relax and put your feet up.

The slightly smaller, dainty Belle Velvet Stool, is 34cm in diameter, and also available in beige, light grey or dark grey velvet, but with the addition of a sophisticated gold metal trim. As Wild Wonder is a soft yellow, it would make a great soothing neutral hue for an office space or even a nursery, with the grey or green Lorna Modern Rocking Chair.

Dulux’s Wild Wonder palettes are divided into 4 categories including Buzz Colours, Raw Colours, and Flow Colours, and include rich, vibrant warm colours such as ‘Manuka Honeybee’, ‘Woven Hemp’, ‘Warm Straw’, ‘Malted Caramel’, ‘Acorn Cap’ and ‘Sweet Cinnamon’.

And all of our black or white furniture, such as this Taylor Dressing Table with LED Mirror would look fresh, clean and contemporary against these. For added texture, see the leather brown leather District 8 - Leather Office Chair.
